Marquette Picks Up Three New Recruits for 2012

By Jackson the Golden Eagles Fan | Posted Thursday, November 10

Buzz Williams gave Golden Eagles fans some welcome news Wednesday, as he signed four new recruits. Steve Taylor, Jamal Ferguson, and T.J. Tyler have all been ranked in the top 200 high school players, nationally. Williams hopes that the size and talent that these newcomers bring will fill the gaps as it were.

Ferguson, a 6' 4” forward, has lettered all three of his years at Maury High School. Last season, Taylor led the Commodores while on their way to a quarter final appearance at their state tournament. In his final season he averaged just under twenty points and ten rebounds a game. He has been ranked in the top fifty at his position.

Hailing from Chicago, Taylor and his mother had ample opportunity to tour the campus. Buzz Williams feels that building a strong Midwestern base of players is a priority for the program. With Taylor we will see that agenda at work. He helped his school win its second consecutive state title. The team finished with an impressive record of 32-2 last year.

T.J. Tyler missed his first year of collegiate basketball when he suffered a concussion. He will have just three years of eligibility when he joins Marquette. The Denison Texas native had an impressive high school career. He heads to Marquette as his team’s all-time high school scoring leader with over 2,500 points. Tyler is a three time Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-state selection. As a senior he averaged twenty points per game.
