Marquette Loses To Notre Dame
By JB Marquette Tickets Fan | Posted Wednesday, February 8
Just like their counterparts in Madison, the Marquette Golden Eagles saw their mid-season winning-streak come to an end over the weekend. Also similar to the Badgers, Marquette's abilities from beyond the arc left a lot to be desired.
The Golden Eagles completed just two-of-thirteen from three-point range against the Fighting Irish. Overall, the team managed just a 39% scoring percentage, so it’s not as if they were hot from anywhere on the court. The team relied upon their defense in order to stay in the game.
Marquette played it point-for-point during the first half and into the early second. When things started to come apart later in the game, the team crawled back from a seven point deficit. Marquette got within two points with fifteen minutes left in the game, but the Irish's Pat Connaughton kept the lead intact, sparking a huge run.
Notre Dame Breaks Away Late
Notre Dame exploded late in the game. There was no way for Marquette to counter a twenty-six-to-eight point run, which effectively ended the contest. Marquette fans can take a bit of solace in the fact that they outscored their opponents in the paint, off second-chances, and off the bench. Jamail Jones nearly equaled his best performance of the season coming off the bench. Jones scored eight points in nineteen minutes.
