John Dawson Joins Marquette Golden Eagles
By Jackson Marquette Tickets Staff Writer | Posted Friday, October 5
With the addition of guard John Dawson to the Golden Eagles 2013 roster, Marquette now boasts the eighth-best class in the country for that year. Four players have committed to the team for their freshman season, Dawson joining transfer Jameel McKay, forward Deonte Burton, and point guard Duane Wilson.
As of now, head coach Buzz Williams is not expecting to add many more names to next year's roster, though should Chris Otule decide to opt-out of his final year of eligibility with the school, a couple of more prospects could be looked at.
Burton and Wilson are the stars of the class, each ranking in the top-100 nationally for their respective positions. However, Dawson has been pegged as an under-appreciated prospect, ranked as high as three-stars by some polls. His appointment is likely to replace guard T.J. Taylor, who was signed by the school last November, but decided to not attend the university in July. Dawson brings a pass-first dynamic to the back-court, but also has an ability to score. He had sixteen points in the New Mexico state semifinals last year, his final game with his high school, as well as seven rebounds and four assists.
