Former Marquette Players In The NBA
By Timothy Bryce | Posted Friday, October 19
There have been many good players that come through the Marquette men's basketball program over the last decade or so. However outside of mega-hero Dwayne Wade and Wesley Matthews, none of them have gone onto notable NBA careers. At the same time though, many of them have actually gone on to play professional basketball.
Travis Diener- Travis Diener was the point guard on the 2003 Final Four team that featured Dwayne Wade. After spending five seasons in the NBA, primarily as a backup, Diener signed with Dinamo Sassari of the Italian Series-A league, one of the top leagues in all of Europe with whom he is still signed to.
Steve Novak- Steve Novak was also a member of the 2003 Final Four team. Novak has been able to carve out a decent NBA career as a specialty player- a three-point shooter with size. He currently plays for the New York Knicks.
Jerel McNeal- Jerel McNeal was part of the Marquette teams of the mid-to-late 2000's that were known for pesky defense and dribble drive basketball. After going undrafted in 2009, McNeal has spent the last three seasons playing in Europe as a well the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Developmental League. McNeal is currently in training camp with the NBA's Toronto Raptors.
Dominic James- Dominic James was also a member of those Marquette teams of the mid-to-late 2000's. He was a high scoring point guard who went undrafted in the 2009 draft. He has spent the last three seasons playing in Europe and is currently signed to Pallacanestro Reggiana in Italy
