Darius Johnson-Odom Nominated for Wooden Award
By Jackson | Posted Wednesday, January 25
As Marquette struggles in the Big East this season, Darius Johnson-Odom finds himself nominated for the most prestigious individual award in collegiate basketball. Odom joined three other Big East players in being named on the Wooden Award-Midseason Top 25 list. The annual Wooden Award recognizes the best male and female college basketball players. Founded in 1976, the honor has been bestowed upon those of great talent. College stars such as Larry Bird, Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant, and Blake Griffin were all recipients of the award.
The midseason list is selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board. The board monitors each player's performance from the beginning of the season through mid-January. Johnson-Odom was expected to make the top-twenty-five as far back as October when he was put on the preseason list, but his regular season numbers have propelled him to front-runner status. This native of North Carolina is second in scoring in the Big East, with just over eighteen points-per-game. He has reached double-digits in each of the games he has played in this year. In his four year career at Marquette, he has already scored over 1,000 points.
